MADISON, Wis. –
Caroline Harvey and
Ava McNaughton of the Wisconsin women's hockey team earned WCHA Player of the Week honors after leading the No. 1 Badgers to a road sweep at No. 3 Minnesota last weekend, the organization announced on Monday.
Harvey earned WCHA Defender of the Week for the third time this season, while McNaughton earned her first Goaltender of the Week award of the season.
A native of Salem, New Hampshire, Harvey led the league last week with five points off five assists in the Badgers sweep at Minnesota. The Wisconsin co-captain recorded a helper in game one and posted an assist on all four of the Badgers' goals in game two to help them overcome a 3-0 second-period deficit.
Harvey's four blocked shots were tied for the fourth-most in the league last weekend.
McNaughton led the WCHA with two wins earning a pair of ranked wins at Minnesota. The sophomore netminder made 18 saves in UW's 5-0 win against Minnesota on Friday with Minnesota's first road shutout of the Gophers since Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award winner Ann-Renee Desbeins blanked the Golden Gophers on Feb. 19, 2017. McNaughton stopped 26 of the 29 shots she faced in UW's 4-3 comeback win on Saturday.
The Seven Fields, Pennsylvania, native's 1.51 GAA was the second-best by a WCHA goaltender over the weekend. Her 44 saves ranked second among league netminders.
The No. 1 Badgers return to LaBahn this Thursday and Friday to face the Bemidji State Beavers. Both games are slated for 7 p.m. and both contests are sold out. Fans can watch the action on B1G+ or listen to the action on 1070 The Game.
