The Badgers battle for conference standing in East Lansing
MADISON, Wis. – The No. 25 Wisconsin men's soccer team (6-3-1, 1-3-1 Big Ten) hits the road this week to face the Michigan State Spartans (4-5-2, 3-2-0 Big Ten) Friday at 6 p.m. Central.
Here are five things to know about the conference matchup.
1 – B1G GAMES AHEAD — The Badgers are halfway through conference play, with five games behind them and five games to go. They have two battles against top-three Big Ten opponents, including Friday's matchup against Michigan State and Big Ten top-standing Ohio State on Oct. 19. That's a total of 15 points available for the Badgers to claim yet this season and conference standings are far from decided.
After a two-game conference homestand, the Badgers hit the road for two conference games. They'll be in East Lansing, Michigan, on Friday and return close to home turf to face Northwestern in Evanston, Illinois, on Oct. 15.
2 – BOLTZ LIGHTS THE WAY — Boltz added a goal to his totals last week against Rutgers. Boltz leads the Big Ten and is tied for second in the NCAA with 22 points. Boltz' nine goals lead the Big Ten and tie for sixth in the NCAA. Boltz is the only freshman among the NCAA top-10 goal scorers. He's also the only freshman in the top-15 point earners in the NCAA.
3 – SCORER'S CLUB — Wisconsin is finding goal scoring through the depth of its roster this season. With Ellis Jones scoring his first as a Badgers last week against Indiana, eight different Badgers notched at least one goal this season through just 10 games. Four different Badgers scored at least two goals throughout the first 10 games of the season. They've combined for 23 total goals, second in the Big Ten to only Ohio State.
4 – ON THE ROAD AGAIN — The Badgers are 1-1-1 on the road this season, compared to their 5-2-0 record at home. They're looking for their first Big Ten road win of the season, but picked up a valuable road point in a 0-0 draw at Washington in late September. Wisconsin's road win came on a strong 1-0 showing against then-No.14 Kentucky.
5 – SPARTAN SNEAK PEEK — The Spartans are coming into the matchup after a 2-1 Big Ten loss to Maryland. The Badgers are 2-4-4 in their last 10 matchups against Michigan State. The teams last met last year in Madison where the Spartans walked away with a 3-1 victory. The Badgers last victory against Michigan State came back in 2018 when they shutout the Spartans 1-0 in East Lansing.
EXTRA TIME — Kickoff is at 7 p.m. CT in East Lansing, Michigan. The game will stream on BIG+. Live updates will also be given on @BadgerMSoccer on X, as well as @badgermsoccer on Instagram. The Badgers next game is another road game on Tuesday, Oct. 15 against Northwestern in Evanston, Illinois.
