Badger stars shine in Rivalry Series

Three current and former Badgers notch two goals in three games

Current Badger alternate captain Lacey Eden joined former Wisconsin captain Hilary Knight with a pair of goals for Team USA in the series. Sarah Nurse scored a pair of goals for Team Canada. NCAA goal-leader Laila Edwards earned three points with one goal and two assists for Team USA and was one of only eight skaters on either side to score three or more points.

Current Badger co-captain Caroline Harvey had two helpers for Team USA and Blayre Turnbull had a goal and an assist for Team Canada. Junior forward Kirsten Simms joined former Wisconsin captain Britta Curl-Salemme with an assist on the series. Fourteen total Badgers suited up to represent their countries, with seven on each team.

Eden scored two goals helping Team USA to a 7-2 victory over Canada in the opening game of the series. The Annapolis, Maryland, native tipped in a shot from the point from Megan Keller to give the U.S. a 3-0 lead, with Edwards registering a secondary assist.

Eden scored again just four minutes later, as she applied pressure on the forecheck and won the puck, proceeding to beat Canadian netminder and former Badger Kristen Campbell from a tight angle. Team USA went into the first intermission leading 5-0.

Team Canada got one back as Turnbull slapped one in on the one timer past goaltender Aerin Frankel to cut the U.S.' lead down to 6-1.

The fourth and final Badger goal of game one came as Nurse scored on a Canada power play to cut their deficit down to 6-2.

Team USA went on to seal game one with a 7-2 victory.

Knight enjoyed a two-goal game two of the series, as former Badger Ann-Renée Desbiens stopped all four of team USA's shooutout attempts to hand Canada a shootout win after a 4-4 tie after overtime and regulation.
Team USA found themselves in a 3-1 deficit entering the third period and it worsened to 4-1 after team Canada extended their lead with seven minutes in the final frame of regulation. Knight fought back to cut the deficit to two, and Grace Zumwinkle came up huge shorthanded and the U.S. was now down 4-3. With just a minute and a half to play, Knight sent the game into overtime with her second of the night.

Team Canada took game two with two goals to none in the shootout.
The U.S. found themselves in a 3-0 deficit entering the third period in game three as Sarah Nurse scored the second goal for the Canadians.Â
Edwards cut its deficit to 3-1 on the power play, threading a shot through from the point. Harvey recorded a secondary assist on what ended up being the U.S.' only goal of the game.

Clark put the game out of reach for Team Canada with just under four minutes to play as she took a cross ice pass and one-timed it into the back of the net.
