MADISON, Wis. – Twelve Wisconsin women's hockey players competed in the Six Nations Tournament representing USA and Canada's Collegiate Women's Select Teams in Tampere, Finland, this past weekend.
Eight Badgers —
Lacey Eden,
Laila Edwards,
Caroline Harvey,
Kirsten Simms,
Casey O'Brien,
Ava McNaughton,
Cassie Hall and
Laney Potter — took home the title with Team USA.
Ava Murphy,
Emma Venusio and
Sarah Wozniewicz earned runner-up honors with Team Canada. Wisconsin commit Adéla Šapovalivová recorded two goals in the tournament representing Czechia.
Eden scored Team USA's first goal in their 5-3 championship win over Canada. Harvey had two assists in that game and four throughout the tournament. McNaughton won the championship game, stopping 20 of the 23 shots she faced. Edwards recorded an assist in the championship game and had four throughout the tournament.
Simms recorded a goal and an assist in the U.S.' 5-0 victory over Sweden in the quarterfinals. Hall and O'Brien accounted for the fifth and sixth goals in Team USA's 6-2 win over Switzerland in the second round. McNaughton recorded a shutout against Finland in the first round of the tournament.Â
Murphy and Venusio both recorded an assist in Team Canada's 3-0 quarterfinal win against Finland.
In addition, former Badger legend Molly Engstrom was an assistant coach for the U.S. squad while current UW athletic trainer Stef Arndt was on the U.S. bench.Â
