MADISON, Wis. – Senior goaltender Tommy Scarfone picked up his second shutout of the season and made 56 total saves in Wisconsin's 4-0 win and 3-2 overtime loss at then-No. 8 Michigan last weekend to earn Big Ten's Third Star of the week, the conference announced on Tuesday.
In Friday's game against the Wolverines, Scarfone made 23 saves to backstop the Badgers to a 4-0 victory over the then-No. 8 team in the country. It marked the senior's second shutout of the season after making 26 saves to blank then-No. 1 Michigan State, 4-0, on Dec. 6. His performance helped the Badgers post their first shutout at Michigan in 60 games since a 0-0 tie in Ann Arbor on Feb 19, 1931.
On Saturday, Scarfone made 33 saves, including 14 in the first period and 13 in the third period, in Wisconsin's 3-2 overtime loss at Michigan. He finished the series with a .949 save percentage and 1.49 goals-allowed on average through two games to help the Badgers earn four of six possible conference points available on the weekend.Â
Over 13 games played this year, the Montreal, Quebec, native has six wins, accumulating a .917 save percentage and a 2.12 goals-against average.
This marks Scarfone's second-career Big Ten weekly honor, most recently earning the conference's first star on Dec. 9, and Wisconsin's fourth of the 2024-25 season.
Scarfone and the Badgers have a two-week break before playing in the 2024 Kwik Trip Holiday Face-Off tournament at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 28-29. Wisconsin takes on Ferris State in the semifinals on Saturday, and depending on the semifinal results, UW will play either UConn or Alaska on Sunday. Both contests start at 5 p.m. and stream on B1G+. Audio play-by-play can be found on 1310 WIBA on Saturday and 1070 The Game on Sunday, or on the Badgers app and the Varsity Network app both nights.
