Freshman earns second rookie of the week honor of the season

MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin women's hockey freshman Maggie Scannell  earned WCHA Rookie of the Week honors for helping the No. 1 Badgers to a sweep of Minnesota State this past weekend, the organization announced Monday.

Scannell scored two goals, including the game-winning goal, in UW's 5-0 win on Saturday. The Wynantskill, New York, native's two goals were tied for the league lead among rookies. The freshman was the only WCHA rookie to tally a game-winning goal. Scannell's .667 shooting percentage was tied for the league lead. She also added a power-play goal on Saturday.

The rookie leads all first-year Badgers with eight goals which ranks her seventh overall on the roster. Her three power-play goals are the fourth-best of all Wisconsin skaters. Her shooting percentage of .267 is the second-best on the team.

Scannell and the Badgers will return on Jan. 2 to face Ohio State at LaBahn Arena at 7 p.m. They'll then travel to Wrigley Field for their Frozen Confines game on Jan. 4 at 4:30 p.m. in game two of the series against Ohio State. Tickets for the game at LaBahn Arena are available on SeatGeek. Buy tickets for the Frozen Confines here.
