MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin men's tennis team (1-9, 0-0 Big Ten) lost to the No. 32 Denver Pioneers (10-0, 0-0 Summit), 6-1, in its final match of the weekend, Sunday, Feb. 25.
Wisconsin played a new pair at the No. 2 doubles match with Gabriel Huber playing alongside Tomas Zlatohlavek in the graduate senior's first doubles match of the season. However, the pair fell 6-2 to Denver's Daniel Sancho Arbizu and Marvin Schaber. The No. 3 doubles match was the next to finish, and despite Mihailo Popovic and Collin Beduhn's win on Friday, the pair fell to Peter Sallay and Raffaello Papajcik, 6-4.
Wisconsin found itself down 2-0 early on after dropping the doubles point and forfeiting the No. 6 singles match. Zlatohlavek, Huber and Beduhn finished first, each played falling to Denver. Next up was Fullerton's match at No. 4 singles. After taking set one, 6-4, over Peter Sallay, the second set was much closer in score. After a hard fought battle, Fullerton emerged victorious, winning his first singles match of the season. The final match of the day was between Michael Minasyan and the No. 114-ranked Nicolas Herrero Cuesta. Minasyan lost the first set, 6-3, but came back in set two with a commanding 6-1 win. It all came down to a set-three tiebreaker, ultimately won by Hererro Cuesta, 10-6.
