Junior leads Wisconsin to a third place finish in Arizona
Junior Chloe Chan led the Badgers after securing a first place finish at 14-under par. Chan set a new 54-hole school record for individuals, with a 202 (66-71-65=202).Â
She surpassed the previous record of 209, which was set by Gabby Curtis in 2018 (67-74-68=209) at the NCAA Regional in Madison, Wisconsin. She is just the second Badger to win the Westbrook Invitational, with Brooke Ferrell earning top honors in 2016 (71-71-69=211).Â
The Badgers also set three team program records, as they shot a new 18-hole school record (270), a new 36-hole school record (560) and a new 54-hole school record (830). Wisconsin's third place finish ties their best at the Westbrook Invitational, with the team also finishing third in 2014.Â
Kansas led the 14-team field, finishing 43-under par after shooting a 277-269-275=821.The Jayhawks set a new 18-hole record (269) and 36-hole record (546) on Sunday for the Westbrook tournament, beating the prior records held by Mississippi State (18 holes, 270 on Feb. 23, 2020) and Oklahoma (36 holes, Feb. 23, 2020).Â
Monday, February 26
Round 3
The Badgers shattered their previous program-best 18-hole team score set in the first round by shooting a 270 (-18) to finish the invitational in third place. Wisconsin's 270 now ranks as the second-best 18-hole team score shot at the Westbrook Invitational, only one stroke behind Kansas' 269 set in the second round of this year's invitational.Â
Chan once again led the Badgers, shooting a seven-under 65 to match her career-best 18-hole score, which is also UW's school record low for 18 holes. She tallied seven birdies in the final round, placing her at 16 total for the tournament.Â
Not far behind, Kate Brody shot a career-best five-under 67 to finish in 11th place at 10-under par. Camille Kuznik improved her second round score by seven strokes to tally a four-under 68 in the final round. Kuznik finished tied for 45th place at one-under par.Â
Carly Carter also found herself under par in the third round, carding a two-under 70 to finished tied for 14th place at eight-under par. Vanessa Ho shot a one-over 73 to tie for 62nd at three-over par, while Alexia Siehl tallied a three-over 75 to finish the tournament tied for 76th at eight-over par.Â
Sunday, February 25
Round 2
Wisconsin carded a 284 (-4) in the second round of the invitational, earning a tie for third place headed into Monday's final 18 holes.ÂFreshman Brody paved the way for the Badgers, shooting a four-under 68 to tie for 17th at the end of the first day. Brody tallied four consecutive birdies in the front nine, before grabbing an eagle on the 17th hole.Â
Carter and Chan each finished the round with a one-under 71, placing Chan tied for sixth and Carter tied for 12th. Siehl carded a one-over 73 to finish the day in 72nd.
Ho carded a two-over 74 to tie for 59th, while Kuznik shot a three-over 75 to land in 65th.Â
Round 1
The Badgers opened the invitational with a record-setting round, placing them tied for first. The team shot a 276 (-12) for a new program-best 18-hole score, breaking the previous record of 277 set at the Westbrook Invitational on Feb. 25, 2018.Chan led the way for Wisconsin in the first round after carding a six-under 66 with an impressive seven birdies. Relative to par, she tied her career best of 65, which was shot on a par 71 at the 2022 Cougar Classic.
Also enjoying a successful round, Carter set a new career-best 18-hole score after tallying a five-under 67.Â
Brody finished the opening round with a one-under 71, while Ho and Kuznik each made par. Competing as an individual, Siehl carded a four-over 76.Â
