Freshman guard averaged 17.5 points per game last week
MADISON, Wis. — John Blackwell continues his strong debut campaign for the Wisconsin men's basketball team, as he earned his fourth Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor on Monday.
Blackwell becomes the first Badger to earn the honor four times since Nigel Hayes in 2013-14. In fact, he joins Hayes as the only players in school history to earn four Big Ten Freshman of the Week awards.
Last week, the Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, native averaged 17.5 points per game shooting 62.5 percent, including 11-for-14 shooting at the free throw line. He also grabbed 6.0 rebounds per game.
Blackwell has scored in double figures in 13 of 29 games played this season. He's led UW in scoring in three contests.Â
Blackwell ranks fourth in scoring among Big Ten freshmen this season, averaging 8.5 points per game.
Wisconsin earned the No. 5 seed in the 2024 Big Ten Men's Basketball Tournament and will play on Thursday at approximately 1:30 p.m. (CT), facing the winner between No. 12 seed Maryland and No. 13 seed Rutgers. The game will be on Big Ten Network.
