Williams, Wearing and Hartke pick up victories on Saturday
MADISON, Wis. – The UW men's track & field team won three events Saturday as they concluded their four-day west coast road trip at the UCLA Legends Invitational, Beach Invitational, Bryan Clay invitational and UW-Platteville Invitational.
Legends at the UCLA Legends Invitational
UW saw its biggest success come from UCLA and the sprints group. Giovanni Wearing won the 110-meter hurdles for the second time this season, finishing in 13.72 seconds. Wearing earned a fourth-place finish at 13.86 during Thursday's Pacific Coast Intercollegiate Invitational before winning the event on Friday night at the Cerritos Invitational in Norwalk.
A day after going 1-2 at Cerritos, Jalen Williams and Elliot Harris went 1-2 again in the 400 meters on Saturday at UCLA. Williams won the event in 47.21 seconds with Harris trailing close behind at 48.10.
Party in Platteville
The distance runners at the UW-Platteville Invitational put on a show as a trio of Badgers went 1-2-3 across the line and all set personal bests in the process.
Max Hartke won the event in his outdoor season debut. The Alaskan crossed the line in 3 minutes, 46.19 seconds. He was followed by Pierce Seigne who finished at 3:46.53 and Logan Measner who finished in third at 3:48.72.
Badgers at Bryan Clay
Bryce Stachewicz ran a personal best time of 3:47.19, a personal-best time, to place fourth in his section of the 1500 meters at the Bryan Clay Invitational. The freshman took off two seconds of his previous best time of 3:49.74 set at the Stanford Invitational last month.
Stars shine down under
Jackson Sharp and UW legend Morgan McDonald had a joint-podium finish in the 5000 meters at Sunday's Australia Athletics Championship. Adam Spencer won the 1500 meters on Saturday as alum Ollie Hoare came in second. McDonald earned second place in an extremely tight finish that saw him cross the line in 13 minutes, 39.66 seconds. Sharp followed in close behind, finishing third in the nation at 13:39.82. It was his first professional competition since 2023, and the grad student capitalized, staking a claim as one of Australia's top distance athletes.
