MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin softball team (13-21, 2-6) lost their second game against Rutgers in a decisive 12-1 defeat. Wisconsin's loss comes off the back of a 5-2 win during the series opener. The game was aired on the Big Ten Network in the first of three such games for the Badgers.

How It Happened:

Rutgers was in the driver's seat early, accumulating 11 runs in the first two innings of the game.
 
Starter Shelby Jacobson got the first two outs of the inning, before surrendering a solo home run, and then a grand slam.
 
Hilary Blomberg came into relief in the second inning, giving up three runs on four hits, before a three-run home run brought Rutger's score up to 11.
 
Rutgers would go on to score once more in the fourth inning, with game ending via run-rule in the fifth.
 
The Badgers tallied just two hits for the game, with Fiona Girardot driving in the team's only run with a third-inning sac-fly.
 
Jacobson, 2-10, was charged with the loss, going 1.1 innings, allowing 7 earned runs and three home runs.
 
Blomberg worked 2.2 innings of relief, allowing five earned runs, and collecting the only strikeout for the Badgers pitching staff.
 
Batting Cleanup

• Brooke Kuffel went 1-for-2 and scored the only run for the Badgers. She is now 3-for-7 in her last four games.
• Fiona Girardot drove in the only run for the Badgers. It was her fourth career RBI against the team.
• Hilary Blomberg's 2.2 innings pitched is a new career high for the freshman.
