
Badgers conclude US Olympic Trials

EUGENE, Ore. – The University of Wisconsin track and field team was represented by
12 current and former members at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Track and Field Team Trials that ran from June 21 to 30 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
Seven athletes competed in their respective events during the first weekend of the competition, with four representing the Cardinal and White at the meet.
Chloe Lindeman, Kiley Robbins, Jason Swarens, and Giovanni Wearing all represented UW at the meet. Lindeman, who competed in the hammer throw, finished 21st in the first round with a mark of 204-1 (62.22m). Robbins, a 2024 NCAA Indoor second-team All-American, Big Ten Champion in the 60-meter dash, and a school record holder in the 60-meter and 100-meter dash, competed in the 100-meter dash. Swarens, who returned to Eugene for the trials following his runner-up finish at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Championships, wrapped up his stellar season with a 20th-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 62-5 ¼ (19.03m). Wearing the final current Badger to compete in the first four days of the trials, he competed in the first round of the 110-meter hurdles. All four athletes will return to UW next season.
Former athletes include Brenna Detra, Evan Jager, and Zach Ziemek. A three-time All-America, Detra competed in the 800 meters on the opening day of the trials, finishing 30th overall and eighth in her heat with a time of 2:03.33. Former Olympian Evan Jager was back competing in the 3000-meter steeplechase. In the event's semifinals, Jager automatically qualified for the finals with a ninth-place finish crossing at 8:27.07, and he returned to the finals, where he finished fourth at 8:28.73. Zach Ziemek competed in the decathlon, finishing second with a season-best 8.516 points and qualifying for his third Olympics; you can read more about 'Double Z's' path to Paris here.
The competition picked back up on Thursday afternoon, with Bianca Stubler running the 400-meter hurdles. She qualified for the semi-finals with a 20th-place overall finish and fourth in her heat, crossing in 56.99 seconds. Stubler returned on Saturday in the semifinals, finishing 17th with a time of 56.42. In the 5,000 meters, Olin Hacker and Bob Liking also had a strong showing, with Hacker qualifying for the finals with an 18th-place finish in 13:34.72, and Liking following with a 23rd-place finish in 13:38.50. In the finals, Hacker had a strong showing finishing 10th crossing with a time of 13:32.10.
Former Badger Destiny Huven made her Olympic trials debut in the first round of the 100-meter hurdles, recording a personal best time of 12.77 seconds. This secured her spot in the semifinals, where she finished 11th with an Olympic standard time of 12.83 seconds.
Amy Davis, a two-time All-American while at UW, competed in the 10,000 meters, finishing 18th with a time of 32:54.72.
