August 22, 2024 | Men's Soccer
Dean Boltz scores hat trick, seven points in first collegiate game
MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin men's soccer started off its season with a win, taking down Marist in a 4-0 victory. Freshman Dean Boltz had a hand in all four goals for Wisconsin, scoring three and assisting on another. The Badgers dominated on offense, leading Marist 13-3 in corners, and outshooting the Red Foxes, 10-1.
How It Happened:
Wisconsin got the upper hand early, when Marist obtained a red card just five minutes into the game, allowing the Badgers to play 11-on-10 the majority of the match.
It was Dean Boltz who capitalized 15 minutes later, scoring in minute 20, scoring on a rebound from a shot from Thomas Raimbault to give the Badgers a lead that they wouldn't let up.
Despite the Badgers getting 10 corner kicks in the first half, 1-0 remained the score for the next 40 minutes of game time.
The gates opened for Wisconsin in minute 63, when Boltz collected a loose ball in midfield and broke away to score his second goal of the game.
Just 15 minutes later with the Badgers working in Marist's box, Matthew Zachemski sent a ball to Boltz, who one-timed it back to Zachemski, allowing the freshman to score his first collegiate goal and putting the Badgers up 3-0.
Boltz finished the scoring barrage with just seven minutes remaining in the game. In a play similar to the second goal, Boltz collected the ball near midfield and beat the Marist defenders in a sprint to the goal, completing the hat trick and putting the Badgers up 4-0, the final score of the game.
Marist played one man down the whole game, and played a physical game, obtaining one red card and four yellow cards. The Red Foxes managed just one shot on goal.
