Badgers play Big Ten home opener Monday at 8 p.m. against the Bruins
MADISON, Wis. – After splitting a two-game road swing 1-1-0, the No. 8/7 Wisconsin men's soccer team (5-1-0) returns to Madison Monday at 8 p.m. to face the 12th-ranked UCLA Bruins (3-1-2).
Here are five things to know about the matchup.
1 – A B1G WELCOME — Wisconsin and UCLA kickoff for the first time in conference after the Bruins joined the Big Ten this season. The teams only met once in 1983, where the game ended in a 1-1 tie. This is the first time the Bruins' soccer team has ever traveled to face the Badgers in Madison.
UCLA enters the matchup after opening conference play with a 1-0 win against Northwestern in Illinois.
2 – DEFENSE LOOKS FOR FOOTING — The Badgers lost their first conference game 3-0 to the Terrapins in Maryland Friday. They allowed three goals in the game — more than they had allowed in all their first five games. Two of the three goals against came on set pieces.
3 – A CHANCE TO BOUNCE BACK — The Badgers averaged 3.2 goals per game through their first five games. Their loss to Maryland was the first time they'd been kept off the scoreboard this season. Despite that lack of production in Maryland, they still average 2.67 goals per game.
4 – HOME SWEET HOME — The Badgers return to the McClimon Soccer Complex in Madison after two straight games away from home. Wisconsin is undefeated at home this season, and only two goals have found the back of freshman goaltender Matisse Hébert's net at home. On the other side of the field, Wisconsin has scored 15 goals in five home on opponents for a goal differential of 13 at home.
5 – STARTED HOT, FINDING CONSISTENCY — The Badgers found a rhythm early this season, finding their first five-game win streak since 2021. The 5-0-0 start was also their best start to the season since 2001. Wisconsin was put in a new position as they fell behind in the 17th minute against Maryland, the earliest and only second time they've trailed this season. It's also the longest they've trailed a team in any game this season.
EXTRA TIME — Kickoff is at 8 p.m. at McClimon Soccer Complex. Admission is free. Monday is 'Greek Life Night' at McClimon and the Fraternity/Sorority with the Highest Attendance Wins a Signed Ball and Free Photo shoot at their Fall Philanthropy Event.
The game will broadcast on the Big Ten Network. Live stats will be available on the men's soccer schedule at UWBadgers.com. Live updates will be given @badgermsoccer on X (formerly twitter).
