Badgers grab first tie of the season at Washington

MADISON, Wis. – The eighth-ranked Wisconsin men's soccer team (6-1-1, 1-1-1 Big Ten) made its first trip to Washington since 2005 and played to a 1-1 deadlock on Friday night.

How it happened
Playing each other for the first time as Big Ten foes, the defenses led the way. The best early scoring opportunity saw a ball roll loose along the Huskies goal mouth, but Washington was able to clear.

UW's first shot came around the 11-minute mark from the head of Dean Boltz after a set piece service bounced around.

The Badgers had one of their best chances to score in the 21st minute on a Boltz net drive, but a Washington defender and goalkeeper converged to deflect the ball out of play.

Washington showed a burst with a couple chances in a stretch between the 33rd and 36th minutes, including on a corner kick, but frosh Matisse Hebert was up to the task.

Hebert shined again in the 73rd minute, turning aside a Washington bicycle kick attempt.

The best opportunities of the night came on corners and set pieces, but neither team found the net.

Notes to know

UW's posted its first draw of the season and first since a 1-1 tie against Penn State at home on Senior Day last Oct. 29.
UW played its first scoreless draw since a 0-0 tie against then-No. 23 Indiana on Sept. 15, 2023.
Freshman Matisse Hebert posted his fourth shutout of the season which is tied for the Big Ten lead.
