MADISON, Wis. - A strong team-run notched a fifth-place finish for the No. 19 Wisconsin women's cross country team in Friday's Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational Presented by Under Armour atthe Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course.

"We always felt that we were better than 19th in the country and we obviously showed that today. Leane (Willemse), who was runner-up in the Big Ten last year, had a rough day out there. That's the sign of a good when your No. 1 athlete has a tough day and you can still finish in fifth h in a massive field like this with some amazing teams. Teams that were really ranked much, much higher than us, but rankings that early in the season don't really mean anything, they really don't. It is what happens now and the next couple of weeks, the rankings will kind of sort themselves out. So, again, great run by our women. Shea Ruhly 29th, Lindsay Cunningham right behind her, coming in 30th place. Great, fantastic support by Annika Cutforth and a few other women that just really did a great job. So, excited for that team and for the rest of the season."
Up Next: Next week, the Badgers head back to Illinois to take part in the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational on Friday, Oct. 4 with the first race set to start at 10:00 a.m. CT.
