Sholokhova wins ITA All-American Championships

Junior becomes program's first All-American since 1998

CARY, N.C. - Maria Sholokhova of Wisconsin women's tennis earned All-American status with her singles win at the ITA All-American Championships on Sunday, Sept. 29.

Sholokhova, who is ranked No. 44 in the ITA Poll, made history as the first man or woman from Wisconsin to win the tournament. She is the program's fourth singles All-American and the first since Barbara Urbanska in 1998.

Going on a 6-0 run, Sholokhova took down two Top-10 ranked players in No. 1 Mary Stoaina (6-4, 6-3) and No. 6 Savannah Broadus (7-6, 6-1).

To earn her crown, the Russian native defeated Elza Tomase (6-3, 6-3) to earn the title of 2024 ITA All-American Champion.

With this win, Sholokhova became an automatic qualifier for the 2024 NCAA Individual Championships, which will take place in Waco, Texas on Nov. 19-24.
