Madison, Wis. – The Wisconsin women's basketball team (10-6, 1-5 B1G) battled hard but ultimately fell short in an 83-68 loss to the No. 8 Maryland Terrapins (15-1, 5-1 B1G) on Saturday afternoon.
Despite showing resilience throughout the game, the Badgers were unable to close the gap after a strong start from the Terrapins. Maryland surged early with a 10-0 run, but Wisconsin kept their composure, ending the first half trailing 45-28. The Badgers mounted a spirited comeback in the third quarter, even taking the lead for the first time, and closed out the period with just a 2-point deficit. However, Maryland responded with a decisive 14-0 run in the final quarter, ultimately sealing the victory.
While the outcome was disappointing, Wisconsin had several standout performances. Junior guard Lily Krahn set three career highs, including five three-pointers, 16 points, and total field goals. Serah Williams led the team with 24 points, hitting 8-11 from the free-throw line and 8-17 from the field, while Halle Douglass tied her career high for assists.
How It Happened
The Badgers started strong but trailed 20-13 after one quarter, following a Maryland 10-0 run. In the second, Wisconsin fought back, with Williams scoring 12 points in the half. They went into halftime down 45-38. Krahn's shooting sparked a comeback in the third, giving the Badgers a 49-47 lead. However, Maryland ended the quarter with a 62-60 edge.
Maryland pulled away in the fourth with a 14-0 run. Williams' free throw cut the lead to 79-67, but the Badgers couldn't recover.
