AUSTIN, Texas - The Wisconsin women's tennis team traveled down to Texas to open their season with a round-robin tournament. They competed in matches with Texas and San Diego, and finished with a 14-15 record overall. The Badgers started the tournament slowly, dropping four of their six singles matchups on Friday to Texas. However, they were able to bounce back quickly with a couple of dominant victories in doubles matches versus San Diego. Ariel Johnson and Parker Christensen won their matchup 6-1, while Taylor Cataldi and Ellison Reynoldson took care of business in their match, winning 6-2.
The Badgers headed into Saturday with a big matchup between two of the best Singles players in the nation. Wisconsin's standout Maria Sholokhova took on San Diego's Kailey Evans in a match between two top-ranked players. Sholokhova proved why she deserves her #3 ranking in the nation after a resounding 6-0, 6-3 victory over Evans. On top of that, Ellison Reynoldson was able to pick up a hard-fought victory over #105 Hannah Read (San Diego) 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (4).
Sunday marked the last day of the tournament for the Badgers who looked to leave on a high note. Maria Sholokhova accumulated another ranked win, this time over #28 Carmen Herea (Texas). The Sochi, Russia native continues to impress starting 3-0 in singles matches after her breakout fall season. Maya Bordereau also finished the tournament strong going 2-0 on Sunday, with a win in her singles match, as well as a victory in her doubles match, alongside teammate Taylor Cataldi.
