Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

No. 18 Badgers outdueled by Bruins on the road

Wisconsin falls, 85-83, to end win streak

LOS ANGELES - The No. 18 Wisconsin men's basketball team saw its seven-game win streak snapped in a tight, 85-83, loss to UCLA on Tuesday night in Los Angeles. After a win over USC on Saturday, the Badgers dropped the second game of their West Coast swing.

The Bruins led throughout the second half, but never gained a double-digit lead, with Wisconsin answering any potential UCLA runs. The Bruin lead reached nine points with 6:59 to play, but the Badgers stayed within striking distance. Eventually, a John Blackwell 3-pointer brought the Badgers within a point with just a minute remaining. However, UCLA clung to its lead to seal the win, getting a defensive stop and converting free throws to ice the game.

Wisconsin held a nine-point lead with less than a minute to play in the first half, but a quick Bruin run closed the margin down to 41-36 at the break. The Badgers struggled to contain UCLA down low in the second half, with the Bruins outscoring UW 18-10 in the paint, while going 14-for-20 from inside the arc.

John Tonje led the Badgers in scoring with 24 points on 8-for-9 shooting. John Blackwell had his second straight 20-point game, finishing with 23 while going 10-for-12 from the free throw line. Blackwell and Tonje became the first Badger duo to each have 20+ points since March of 2024.

UCLA's defense forced the Badgers' offense into 13 turnovers, but UW kept pace by shooting 25-for-49 (51.0%). By scoring 83 points, Wisconsin has now tallied 80+ points in 12 games this season, the most in a single campaign since doing so 13 times during the 1970-71 season.

Wisconsin led at half, 41-36, with the Badgers converting on 10 3-pointers in the first frame, including five from John Tonje.

The Badgers record now sits at 15-4, with a 5-3 mark in conference play.
