MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin men's tennis team matched up against SMU at Nielsen Tennis Stadium on Friday, taking a 5-2 victory. Wisconsin claimed the doubles point and secured the victory with singles wins from Michael Minasyan, Tomas Zlatohlavek, Edouard Aubert, and Patrik Meszaros.

Wisconsin won the doubles point after three hard-fought matches. At No. 1 doubles the sophomore combination of Oliver Olsson and Tomas Zlatohlavek secured a 7-6 win after dominating the 7-point tiebreaker 7-2. Patrik Meszaros and Michael Minasyan ultimately secured the doubles point with a 7-6 victory (7-5 tiebreak) at No. 2 doubles. SMU claimed a win at No. 3 doubles.  

Junior Michael Minasyan defeated #48 ranked Trevor Svajda at No. 1 singles. Minasyan was in control the whole match, securing the victory in straight sets and improving to 2-1 in singles play during dual matches this season. 

At No. 2 singles, Tomas Zlatohlavek worked quickly to secure Wisconsin's third point winning 6-4, 7-6 (7-5). Edouard Aubert sealed the victory for Wisconsin at No. 5 singles, dominating the third set 6-1. SMU retired at No. 4 singles giving Patrik Meszaros the win. Both Aubert and Meszaros improved to 3-0 in singles play. 

SMU still leads 5-3 in the all-time series, but UW improves to 3-0 when matches are played at home. 

Up Next: Wisconsin returns to Nielsen Tennis Stadium next weekend to host Western Michigan on Friday, January 31st and Drake on Sunday, February 2nd. First serve is set for 5:30 p.m. and 11 a.m., respectively. Admission is free for both matches.
