UW takes on Washington, Oregon to continue Big Ten play
MADISON, Wis. - The No. 12 Wisconsin volleyball team heads out west to continue Big Ten play, as they will battle against Washington (9-9, 4-4) on Friday, Oct. 24 at 9:00 p.m. CT and Oregon (12-6, 3-5) on Sunday, Oct. 26 at 3:00 p.m. CT.Â
Friday's match will be broadcast on Big Ten Network against the Huskies, while the Sunday matinee will be streamed on B1G+.Â
The Badgers (13-3, 6-2) split their pair of home matches this past weekend, first taking down No. 23 UCLA in straight sets with the help of 11.0 blocks—including eight turned in by senior Alicia Andrew.Â
Outside hitter Mimi Colyer led the way on the offensive end with 16 kills, as she's racked up double-digit totals in every match but one this season. Freshman Addy Horner notched a career-best four kills with the help of multiple setter dumps against a stingy Bruins' defense.Â
UW just fell short in a four-set battle against No. 25 USC on Sunday, as three Badgers earned double-doubles, led by Colyer with a 23-kill, 10-dig performance. Right side Grace Egan made her return after missing seven matches due to injury, turning in a career-high 13 digs.
Wisconsin was ranked No. 12 within the NCAA Top-16 teams this past Sunday in its first release of the year.Â
Last year, the Badgers earned victories over both Washington and Oregon at the UW Field House. Sunday's match against the Ducks will highlight the return of Colyer to Oregon, where she spent three seasons prior before making her way to Madison. As a Duck, Colyer was the AVCA National Freshman of the Year and garnered All-America honors over numerous seasons.
This week will mark the first time Wisconsin will compete ranked outside of the top-10 since the 2019 season. The Badgers went on to finish as the Big Ten champions and National Runner-Up that season with a 27-7 overall record and 18-2 conference record during that year.Â
Wisconsin will return home for a Friday night battle against No. 1 Nebraska, who enters this week as one of two undefeated teams in the country with No. 2 Texas. The match is scheduled for Halloween night, beginning at 8:00 p.m. CT on Oct. 31 and will be televised on Big Ten Network.
