BACKCOURT BRIGADE
Wisconsin’s starting backcourt of Nick Boyd and John Blackwell got off to a scintillating start, being one-of-five pairs in the nation to average 19-plus points per game to open the year (Boyd - 20.0, Blackwell - 19.5). Boyd, a transfer from San Diego State, posted a career-high 25 points in the win over Northern Illinois. His 22 against SIUE brought the four-game total to 80 – a mark only John Tonje and Johnny Davis have surpassed through the program’s first four games in a season (data to 1999-00. Blackwell dropped 31 points in the opener against Campbell, before posting the game-high against SIUE. His 78 points is the sixth-most in program history through four games.
WE MEET AGAIN
UW fell 91-89 at the hands of BYU in the second-round of the 2025 NCAA Tournament. It was just the third meeting in program history, a series that Bucky leads 2-1. The Badgers won the Chicago Invitational 73-56 against the Cougars on Nov. 26, 2011, with Ben Brust dropping a game-high 21 points. Wisconsin also won 30-16 in the 1931 season-opener on Dec. 11 in Madison.
The Cougars come into Friday's game at 3-1, falling to UConn last Saturday, 86-84. They boast the top-ranked freshman in the class of 2026, AJ Dybantsa, who's averaging 20.3 points per game. Richie Saunders returns to the fold with 19.5 points per game, while Baylor transfer Rob Wright rounds out the double-digit scorers at 17.8.
