Badgers drop contest in snowy and cold conditions
MINNEAPOLIS - The Wisconsin Badgers (4-8) fell to the Minnesota Golden Gophers (7-5) by a 17-7 score Saturday evening to wrap up the 2025 season.
The game started with both offenses struggling to score early as weather proved to be a factor from the beginning. The temperature at kickoff was 23 degrees and snow fell throughout the contest making yards difficult to come by. UW's Ben Barten came up with a block on a 38-yard field goal attempt from Minnesota to keep the game scoreless.
Minnesota opened the scoring with a 33-yard field goal, giving the Gophers a 3-point lead late in the second quarter. Minnesota tacked on a touchdown on its next possession to make the score 10-0 with 2:45 left in the first half.
The Badgers offense responded in a big way when quarterback Hunter Simmons connected with Vinny Anthony II on a 67-yard pass and catch that put the Badgers on the doorstep of the end zone.Â
Wisconsin capitalized on the opportunity, scoring a touchdown on a 1-yard pass to Jackson Acker from Carter Smith on fourth down. The score cut the Minnesota lead down to 10-7 at the half.
Both defenses continued to dominate the game at the beginning of the third quarter, until Minnesota scored on a short-pass touchdown to extend its lead to 17-7.Â
The score held the rest of the way and finished 17-7.Â
