Badgers use second-half surge to oust Central Michigan

Rapp and Winter each finish with game-high 18 points
MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin men's basketball team used a 23-3 second-half run to fly past Central Michigan on Monday night at the Kohl Center, 88-61.
Austin Rapp had a game-high 18 points, nailing 4 three-pointers, grabbing 7 rebounds and dishing out 3 assists.
Nolan Winter posted 18 points and 8 boards, while Nick Boyd had 12 points. Braeden Carrington added 9, going 3-of-6 from beyond the arc, and Jack Janicki posted a career-high 9 assists.
The UW offense had its most balanced night of the season, dropping 44 points off the bench with 11 players in the scoring column. The bench points are the most in a game for UW since at least the 2006-07 season. The Badgers (8-4, 1-0 B1G) shot 29-of-54 from the field, the first time they've eclipsed the 50-percent mark this season.
Wisconsin got off to a strong start in the first half thanks to an opening 9-2 spurt, capped off by an Aleksas Bieliauskas three-pointer. Winter took over with his size advantage early, ending the opening period with 13 points and 7 rebounds.
UW took a 40-28 lead into intermission, shooting an efficient 13-for-22 from the field. Bucky's physicality was prominent throughout the period, outrebounding CMU 19-12.
Wisconsin anchored down out of the break, sparking a 23-3 run. They held CMU scoreless for over 6-minutes during the streak, the longest drought for a Badger opponent this season.
Rapp had three triples during the run, including makes from the perimeter on back-to-back possessions. True freshman Zach Kinziger got his first collegiate bucket with a corner-three to bury the Chippewas, before sinking his second trey of the night to finish with 6 points.
Up Next: UW resumes action next Tuesday as Milwaukee comes to the Kohl Center. Tip is set for 6 p.m. and the game will air live on BTN.

"A lot of good things [tonight], a lot of things we'd been talking about specifically. [We were] taking care of the ball better, and to play the second half with only two turnovers and 29 baskets is a sign that when we move the ball we're hard to guard, as is anyone else in the country. There's a lot of good things... this group needs to continue to do it by committee, and it was good to see a lot of guys step up."

"I found out 40 minutes before the game, didn't really know what was happening until the lead-up… I was ready, obviously, [had] a little bit of nerves going into it. But once I got out there, it was just another game of basketball."

"To bounce back tonight, see a few shots go down, get a good win and see all of the guys contributing was pretty cool. Coming off of the bench, it doesn't phase me, I bring a scoring punch and the coaches are really pushing me to be aggressive."

"What I see in practice every day, I'm not worried with what we got. I know we're going to figure it out and we will play our best basketball in March when it's needed."
