Wisconsin sweeps Minnesota en route to 7th win in a row

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Badgers swept their B1G rival, the Minnesota Gophers, 4-0, on Friday afternoon in Minneapolis.

The Badgers came out cooking, winning the doubles point in dramatic fashion. No. 62 Maria Sholokhova and Ariel Johnson won their match handily with a score of 6-3. Ekaterina Ivanova and Parker Christensen won a 7-5 nail-biter to secure the point for the Badgers.

After grabbing the early lead, Wisconsin never looked back. No. 7 Maria Sholokhova convincingly won her singles match versus Aiva Schmitz , 6-1, 6-4.

As a newcomer in the singles rankings, No. 96 Taylor Cataldi made a case that she should be higher in the rankings, winning her match against Anali Kocevar, 6-1, 6-2

Finally, Ariel Johnson clinched the win for the Badgers, beating Jesselle Ante 6-4, 6-3

This win marks the 7th in a row for Wisconsin, which is the longest active streak in the Big Ten. It is also their 4th win in a row over the Gophers going back to the 2021-22 season. Additionally, Wisconsin stretched it's all-time lead over the Gophers to 45-24.

The Badgers will host a pair of B1G opponents in Northwestern and Illinois next weekend in their first home match in over a month. On Friday March 7th, Wisconsin will attempt to break the all-time attendance record for an NCAA match. It is being dubbed "1k Day" as the Badgers are setting the goal of packing the Nielsen Tennis Center with 1,000 fans. The game will be played vs. Northwestern and will begin at 5 PM CST.
