Five things to know: Badgers head to Windy City

Select sprints, throwers and distance to compete in Chicago


MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin men's track and field team competes at the Blue Demon Alumni Classic in Chicago, Illinois on Feb. 8. This meet will be the last before the Badgers host their final home meet of the season. The Badgers will send select sprinters, distance and hurdlers to Chicago.

1. WINNING WILLIAMS: Over in the Hoosier State, several Badgers made their mark at the Meyo Invite, highlighted by junior Jalen Williams' dominant win in the 400 meters. The Washington, D.C. native clocked 46.19, setting a new school record and ranking third in Division I this season. 

2. FRESHMAN ON FIRE: In the 800 meters, Patrick Hilby brought the heat, crossing the line in 1:48.59, earning a top-10 mark in UW history. This is the freshman's second top-10 time this season as he also ranks in the top-10 in school history in the 600 meters. 

3. THRILLING 3000: The 3000 meters featured a deep Wisconsin lineup featuring three members of the 2024 cross country national podium finishing team. Matan Ivri led the way, finishing fifth with a time of 7:52.28, which ranks in the top-25 in the country. Two other Badgers finished top 10 with personal records as Johnny Livingstone took seventh in 7:57.01 with Christian de Vaal was right behind him in eighth with a time of 7:57.60. 

4. SHINING IN SHOT: The Badger throwers stole the show in the shot put at the Dr. Sander Invitational. Andrew Stone claimed victory with a throw of 62 feet, 5 inches (19.02m), edging out teammate Joseph White, who finished second with a 62-4 (19.00m) effort that replaced his previous best on the UW all-time indoor list. Jason Swarens rounded out the top five for the Badgers with a fourth-place finish mark of 61-2 ¾ (18.66m). 

5. UP NEXT: The Badgers return to the Windy City for their final home meet of the indoor season. The Wisconsin Windy City Invite will take place Feb. 14 to Feb. 15.
