Wisconsin finishes sixth at Big Tens

Taiko Torepe-Ormsby claims fourth in the 100 free

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Wisconsin men's swim and dive team finished in sixth place at the 2025 Men's Big Ten Championships, highlighted by a new school record in the 200 free relay and a silver medal over the weekend. 

The Badgers finished with 735 points, as the Indiana Hoosiers won it for the fourth year in a row with 1579 points. Followed by Michigan (1148), Ohio State (1100), USC (878) and Minnesota (794.5).

In the 100 freestyle, Taiko Torepe-Ormsby made a surge early holding the lead for the first 100, but ultimately finished fourth with a time of 41.91. Ben Wiegand finished 15th and Chris Morris in 17th. 

After setting a program record in a time trial in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:41.29 on Wednesday night, Charlie Jones finished seventh in the event tonight with a time of 1:42.41. Dominik Mark Torok placed 13th with a time of 1:44.23, while Lance Swanepoel came in 16ht and Zach Ward in 18th. 

On the distance side, Yigit Aslan finished 13th in the 1650 freestyle in 15:00.78, with freshman Yoav Romano just behind him in 16th with a time of 15:11.91. 

In the 200 backstroke, freshman Landon Kyser led the Badgers with an 11th-place finish with a time of 1:42.86, as Nathan Welker finished 14th and freshman Finn Bacon in 20th. Two Badgers advanced to finals in the 200 breaststroke, with Indiana claiming first, second, third and fourth place in the event. Matthew Segal and freshman Nate Harris represented the Badgers finishing 13th and 18th, respectively. 

In the final event of the meet, the 400 free relay team of Torepe-Ormsby, Wiegand, Morris and Vainio finished with a time of 2:51.42.

In the diving well, Jan Lanser finished 17th in prelims on the platform with 286.45 points. 

The men who qualified will head to NCAAs in Federal Way, Washington on Wednesday, March 26-Saturday, March 29, with diving NCAA Zones on March 10-12.
