OKLAHOMA CITY. - The Wisconsin softball team (19-10, 3-2) put up seven-runs in the fifth inning to defeat Purdue, 8-4, at Devon Park in Oklahoma City. Wisconsin bounced back from a loss in game one of the series, and split its two game series against the Boilermakers.
Wisconsin played from behind for most of the game, finding itself down 2-1 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning. The Badgers rallied in a big way, collecting either a hit or a walk in the next nine plate appearances.
All of Wisconsin's runs in the inning were driven in via the extra-base hit.
Molly Schlosser tied the game up with an RBI double, before
Hilary Blomberg broke things open with a three-run home run to left field.
Emmy Wells and
Ellie Hubbard then hit back-to-back doubles to score three more runs.
By the end of the inning, UW was up 8-2. Purdue put across two more runs in the game, before Wisconsin secured the final out as well as the 8-4 victory.
The Badgers had five extra-base hits in the game, and walked six times. The lead-off batter reached in four of the six innings.
Brooke Kuffel was responsible for the Badgers lone run in the first four innings, knocking an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth.
Molly Jacobson earned the victory, pitching 4.1 innings in relief and giving up three earned runs. Her record is now 5-2 on the season.
Kendra Lewis started the game for Wisconsin, putting up a solid 2.2 innings, allowing just one earned run. In addition, Lewis went 1-for-2 at the plate.
Batting Cleanup
- Wisconsin's seven-run fifth inning is the most runs the team has scored in a single inning all season. The last time the Badgers scored more than seven runs in an inning was on April 20, 2024 against Penn State - when the team scored 10 runs in the fourth.
- Hilary Blomberg hit her second home run in as many days, her sixth of the season. Blomberg is on a seven-game hitting streak, going 12-for-25 with four home runs and a double in that span.
- Kendra Lewis extended her hitting streak to eight games, going 1-for-2 in the game. The reigning Big Ten player of the week is, coincidentally, 12-for-25 during her hitting streak as well.
- Brooke Kuffel went 3-for-4 with an RBI - her second three-hit game this season in the last week as she went 3-for-3 against Illinois on March 14.
