Five things to know: Badgers split up for two outdoor meets

Select athletes will compete in the Hurricane Collegiate Invite, others head to the Mangrum Invite
MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin men's track and field team splits up for two meets this weekend as several student-athletes will make their 2025 outdoor debuts. Select throwers, sprinters, jumpers, and multi-event athletes will travel to San Marcos for the Mangrum Invite, hosted by Cal State San Marcos, on Friday, March 28. Field events begin at 10 a.m., with track events to follow at noon.
Several sprinters will head south for the Hurricane Collegiate Invite, hosted by the University of Miami, on Saturday, March 29. Running events begin at noon.

1. BACK ON TRACK: UW's top athletes hit the track to debut their 2025 outdoor season. 2025 NCAA indoor 3,000-meter third-place finisher Adam Spencer is slated to compete alongside first-team All-Americans Patrick Hilby and Andrew Casey. The trio, along with junior Jalen Williams, placed eighth in the distance medley relay (DMR) at the 2025 NCAA Indoor Championships.
2. KEEP ON RUNNIN': In addition to Spencer, four-time Big Ten cross country champion Bob Liking returns to the track this weekend. Liking ended the season ranked 21st in the nation in the 5,000 meters, where he is also the school record holder and Big Ten runner-up. He will race alongside a group of underclassmen, including Christian de Vaal, Johnny Livingstone, and Archie Noakes, among others.
3. OFF THE BLOCKS: Four sprinters return to the start blocks in Florida this weekend: Jalen Williams, Giovanni Wearing, Elliot Harris, and Landon Gallun. Last time out in the 110-meter hurdles, junior Gio Wearing finished second with a time of 13.70 seconds among a stacked field of 31 competitors.
4. LAUNCH PARTY: First-team All-Americans Jason Swarens and Joseph White will make their outdoor debuts this weekend after a successful indoor season. Swarens placed third in the shot put at the 2025 NCAA Indoor Championships, while White finished seventh in the shot put and 10th in the weight throw.
5. UP NEXT: The Badgers continue their West Coast trip at the Stanford Invite on Friday, April 4, and Saturday, April 5.
