EVANSTON, Ill. – The Wisconsin men's tennis team opened conference play against Northwestern Friday night. The Wildcats claimed the doubles point and went on to win three singles matches to secure the 5-2 victory over the Badgers. Wisconsin had match wins at No. 1 and No. 5 singles. 

The Badgers fought-hard in doubles action, but ultimately Northwestern came away with the 1-0 lead to start the match. The sophomore partnership of Oliver Olsson and Tomas Zlatohlavek shined at No. 1 doubles. They took the decisive 6-2 victory over Northwestern's Saiprakash Goli and Greyson Casey. At No. 2 doubles Michael Minasyan and Patrik Meszaros' comeback effort fell just short, as they lost 5-7. Northwestern also took the win at No. 3 doubles.  

Freshman Edouard Aubert continued his impressive season with a straight set victory at No. 5 singles. He improved to 6-1 in dual play this spring. Junior Michael Minasyan dominated in the No. 1 slot with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Northwestern's Saiprakash Goli. Minasyan also notched his 6th dual match win of the season.

Freshman Patrik Meszaros moved up to No. 2 singles to take on Northwestern's Felix Nordby. Meszaros came up just short in set one, losing the tiebreaker and allowing Nordby to get enough momentum to seal the Northwestern victory.   

Up Next: The Badgers will remain on the road as they travel to Champaign, Illinois to take on the No. 20 ranked Fighting Illini. Doubles action is set to begin at noon on Sunday, March 9.
