MADISON, Wis. – The No. 17 Wisconsin Badgers continued their dominant run with a 4-0 sweep over Northwestern on Friday night at Nielsen Tennis Stadium, marking their eighth straight victory and fourth consecutive sweep. The match was played in front of a lively home crowd as part of the team's "1K Day" promotion.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Badgers set the tone early with commanding doubles play. Maria Sholokhova and Ariel Johnson dropped just one game in a 6-1 victory, while No. 62 Taylor Cataldi and Ellison Reynoldson cruised to a 6-0 win, securing the doubles point for Wisconsin.
With momentum on their side, the Badgers carried their strong play into singles action. No. 5 Maria Sholokhova powered past Erica Jessel 6-3, 6-2, earning her eighth consecutive singles victory. Ekaterina Ivanova showed resilience after falling behind early in the second set, battling back to defeat Britany Lau 6-1, 6-4. Taylor Cataldi clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Mika Dagan-Fruchtman. The senior overcame a 3-0 deficit in the second set, rallying with the support of her teammates and the home crowd.
The Badgers have now won eight straight matches and have not dropped a single point in their last four.
