MADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin women's tennis team continued its dominant stretch of play Sunday afternoon, taking down the Illinois Fighting Illini, 4-1.
It was an exciting match from the opening serve, and the doubles point came down to the matchup between Taylor Cataldi and Ellison Reynoldson. After getting off to a slow start, the pair was down four games to one. However, a quick pep talk from head coach Kelcy Mckenna sparked a comeback victory, 7-5. Â
Ariel Johnson and Maria Sholokhova continued their great play, as the duo made light work of their matchup winning 6-1.
The singles matchups came down to the wire. Taylor Cataldi showed a fantastic performance in her singles victory to give the Badgers their second point. Maria Sholokhova did the same, continuing to prove why she is one of the best players in the country. Ellison Reynoldson dropped her matchup vs. Ariel Madatali, marking the first point concession for the Badgers in their last five matches.Â
Nevertheless, the Badgers would not be denied. Kaja Jacobson ended the tense match with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory over Alice Xu. Her teammates mobbed her on the court, celebrating Wisconsin's ninth victory in a row.
Next up, the Badgers will head to the plains to take on Nebraska on Saturday, March 22, and Iowa on Sunday March 23.
