MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin men's tennis team was bested by an experienced Nebraska squad on Saturday afternoon. The Huskers jumped to an early lead and never let it go, winning the match 4-0.
The Badgers fought hard in doubles action early, but Nebraska pulled away on courts one and three to claim the doubles point.Â
In singles action the experience level of the Huskers' roster proved to be too much for the Badgers to overcome. Nebraska's upperclassmen filled lineup took set one victories on four of the six courts, and saw straight set victories at both No. 5 and No. 6 singles. Wisconsin freshman Patrik Meszaros took set one 6-4, but Nebraska's Anton Shepp went on to win the match 6-0, 6-3 in the final two sets.Â
Junior Michael Minasyan dominated in set one against No. 64 Calvin Mueller, winning the set 6-3. Mueller fought back in set two, and the match was left unfinished before either player could notch a victory.Â
Wisconsin is now 3-8 in Big Ten play and 9-10 overall.Â
Up Next: Wisconsin will wrap up the regular season with matches against No. 32 UCLA and No. 26 USC next weekend. The Badgers welcome the Bruins to Madison on Friday, April 18 and will clash against the Trojans on Sunday, April 20. The matches are set to start at 5 p.m. and noon, respectively. Admission is free at Nielsen.Â
