Five things to know: Badgers finish conference play at home

Wisconsin hosts No. 21 UCLA and No. 26 USC

  1. WRAPPING UP THE REGULAR SEASON: The Badgers will end the spring regular season at home this week with matches against two top-ranked conference opponents. Wisconsin will take on No. 21 ranked UCLA on Friday, April 18 at 5 p.m. in Madison. The Badgers will finish conference play with a match against the No. 26 USC Trojans on Sunday, April 20 at noon. Admission is free for both matches at Nielsen.

  1. MIDWEST MATCH RECAP: Wisconsin hosted No. 38 ranked Nebraska for a Saturday matinee over the weekend. The Huskers left Madison with a decisive 4-0 victory over the Badgers.

The Badgers fought hard but could not catch a break against Nebraska's experienced lineup. The Huskers took the early lead, winning the doubles point with victories in the No. 1 and No. 3 slots. In singles action Wisconsin junior Michael Minasyan played confidently against No. 64 ranked Calvin Mueller. Minasyan won the first set 6-3, but the contest was left unfinished as Nebraska clinched the match with singles wins on courts 2, 4, and 6.

Minasyan became the first Badger to enter the rankings individually this season. His 8-7 record against multiple nationally ranked opponents this spring earned him a spot at No. 116 in the April 15 ITA singles rankings.

  1. KNOW YOUR OPPONENTS: Wisconsin is 0-5 in the all-time series against UCLA. The Bruins have four players in the April 15 ITA singles rankings and one partnership ranked in doubles. UCLA's Rudy Quan and Spencer Johnson are both within the top-30 singles players. The duo of Tripathi and Hoogmartens is ranked No. 32 nationally.

The Badgers are 0-4 in the all-time series against the Trojans. The most recent meeting was in 2017 during the second round of the NCAA tournament. USC beat Wisconsin 4-0. USC's Peter Makk is ranked No. 17 as of the April 15 ITA singles rankings.
