No. 5 seed Wisconsin takes on No. 12 Penn State
OJAI, Calif. - The Wisconsin women's tennis team has landed in California ahead of their first Big Ten Tournament match vs. Penn State on Wednesday, April 23rd at 2 PM CST.
This match comes directly after the Badgers swept the Nittany Lions 4-0 in their final match of the regular season.
BADGERS IN THE RANKINGS: The final rankings of the regular season came out this morning just ahead of postseason play. Wisconsin climbed up to No. 23 in the national team rankings while Maria Sholokhova ended up at 9th in the nation in singles rankings. Additionally, the duo of Ariel Johnson and Maria Sholokhova closed out the season as the 48th ranked doubles team in the nation.
SCOUTING THE NITTANY LIONS: Penn State finished the regular season with a record of 14-9 (5-8), which was good enough for 12th in the Big Ten. They were able to nab the last spot in the Big Ten tournament. Their last home match of the season came against the Wisconsin Badgers, where Wisconsin was able to beat them 4-0. The Nittany Lions are led by Alexandra Mcintyre who is in her 5th season leading the Nittany Lions. They have a relatively young roster with a couple of Senior leaders in Yvonne Zuffova and Deanna Lasorda.
BIG TEN TOURNAMENT: The tournament is being hosted in Ojai, California for the first time ever. The field is made up of the top 12 teams from the Big Ten, with the top four seeds getting a bye in the first round.
