Badgers complete busy weekend on high note

4x1500 relay excels at Penn Relays

MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin women's track and field team wrapped up a busy weekend of action on Saturday, as UW took fifth place in the 4x1500 relay at the Penn Relays while numerous athletes enjoyed strong showings at the Fighting Illini Twilight.

Relay goes top-3 all-time at Penn Relays

The 4x1500 meter relay for the Badgers turned in the third-fastest time in school history with the combination of Leané Willemse, Mya Bunke, Emma Kelley and Kylie Finger. The four upperclassmen covered the distance in 17 minutes, 26.83 seconds.

Saturday's race marks a stretch of consistent success for the women's distance program. For the past four seasons, the Badgers have run a top-5 time in school history—including the mark of a school record at the Penn Relays last season.

Sydney Robinson kicked things off with a personal best in the 100 meters, earning a mark of 11.95 seconds—running her first 100 meters in under 12 seconds this season. Robinson then followed it up with a fourth-place finish in the 200 meters, covering the distance in 23.77 seconds with a wind-aided mark.

Karina Janik and Elissa Perkins each finished in the top-3 in their respective events, including a season-best turned in by Perkins in the triple jump. A native of Bolingbrook, Illinois, Perkins soared 40-5 ½ (12.33m), inching closer to her top jumps from last season.

In the 3000 meters steeplechase, Munson earned a third-place finish with a time of 10:41.87.

Up Next: Wisconsin will host its lone outdoor meet of the season, the Badger Challenge, on Friday at the McClimon Track Complex. Field events will begin at 1 p.m. while track events will start at 3:15 p.m. Admission is free. UW will also honor its senior class during the competition.
