Badgers walked-off by Wildcats, 4-3

Lewis' three-hit day spoiled by NU comeback

MADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin softball team (31-19, 11-11) fell in its series finale against Northwestern, losing 4-3 on a walk-off home run. The loss marks the final conference game of the season for Wisconsin.

Wisconsin led the whole game until the final pitch, entering the bottom of the seventh up, 3-0.

After pitching a complete game in yesterday's contest, Molly Jacobson was back in the circle for Wisconsin, pitching an excellent first six innings for the Badgers. Jacobson held Northwestern to no runs on just four hits, before the Wildcats struck back.

NU led the final inning off with two infield singles, with one deflecting off the glove of Jacobson on a comebacker, and the other being gloved by the second baseman on a great diving play, but unable to throw the runner out in time. A double down the line allowed one runner to score, before a sacrifice fly in the next plate appearance made it 3-2. With two outs, Northwestern then hit their first home run of the day, clearing the fence for a 4-3 victory.

Supporting Molly Jacobson's pitching performance was Kendra Lewis, who sparked the majority of Wisconsin's offense. Lewis collected three hits, and was responsible for driving in all three runs for the Badgers.

Lewis got things going with a single in the top of the first to give UW the early lead, scoring Molly Schlosser from second. She added another RBI in the top of the third, this time roping a triple into right field to score Hilary Blomberg. Finally, Lewis ended her big day with a solo home run in the top of the seventh - her second game in a row going yard.

Lewis collected three of Wisconsin's five hits on the day, with the other two coming from Emily Bojan. Despite the lack of hits, the Badgers managed to reach base throughout the contest, drawing six walks, and being hit by pitch four times. The Badgers left 10 runners on base, however, going 2-for-10 with runners in scoring position.
