Badgers play Tigers in opening round

MADISON Wis. - The Wisconsin women's tennis team will start NCAA tournament play with a match against the Clemson Tigers. The match will be played in Auburn, Alabama and will begin at 10 AM CT on May 2nd.

SCOUTING THE TIGERS: Clemson enters the tournament with a 14-11 overall record which had them ranked at No. 36 in the final ITA rankings of the season. They played in a tough ACC conference, which helps to explain their solid ranking despite a tough record. Head coach Boomer Saia is in his second season leading the Tigers, with this being their first NCAA tournament appearance in his tenure. They have been sliding recently, losing five of their last six games to close out the regular season and conference championships. Clemson has one player ranked in the top 125 for singles with graduate Senior, Sophia Hatton. However, they also have a couple of duos in the duos rankings. No. 42 Amelie Smejkalova and Gaia Parravicini went 13-7 this season and No. 89 Candela Yecora and Romana Cisovska also had a great season going 18-9.

UP NEXT: If the Badgers are able to win against Clemson, they will play the winner of Auburn and South Carolina State. Auburn is the 8th overall seed in the tournament, meaning they are hosting the opening 2 rounds of the NCAA tournament.
