Former Big Ten athlete hired as assistant coach

MADISON, Wis. - Wisconsin women's tennis head coach Marek Michalicka announced the addition of Katie Zordani to the Badger coaching staff as an assistant coach ahead of the 2025 season.

Zordani joins the Badgers following a successful seven-year tenure at Cornell University, where she helped guide the Big Red to notable success. During her time in Ithaca, Zordani coached student-athletes to All-Ivy recognition and played a key role in strengthening team culture and development.

"We are very excited to welcome Katie and her husband Jack to Wisconsin," said Michalicka. "Katie brings valuable experience to our program. Her passion, personality, and leadership will be a great fit, and we're confident she will make an immediate positive impact on our student-athletes."

"Simply put, Katie will be a terrific addition not only to our team, but also to the Badger family and the Madison community," stated Michalicka.

Zordani competed for the women's tennis team at Iowa from 2011-15, earning the Presidential Committee on Athletics Academic Award and a spot on the Academic All-Big Ten team all four years. Zordani was also presented the team's Grinder Award (2011-12), Iron Hawk Award (2013-14), and Leadership and Citizen Award (2014-15).

Her professional career has included working with the Chicago Bears before joining Cornell in 2019 as an assistant coach. She was promoted to head coach in 2022.

"I'm thankful for my time at Cornell and the student-athletes, staff, and supporters who made it so meaningful," said Zordani. "I'm honored to join Wisconsin women's tennis and grateful to Marek and the hiring committee for this opportunity. Wisconsin holds a very special place in my heart, and I'm thrilled to be part of a program whose proud tradition and strong foundation of excellence resonate deeply with me."

"I'm eager to work with our student-athletes to build on that success and elevate the program to even greater heights on the court, in the classroom, and in the community. Go Badgers!" stated Zordani.

A native of Lake Forest, Illinois, Zordani comes from a strong Badger family connection, as her brother John and sister Christina were also student-athletes at Wisconsin. She will move to Madison alongside her husband, Jack.
