MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin men's golf team finished 11th at +21 at the Badger Invitational, rising one spot from Day 1 at TPC Wisconsin on Tuesday.
Senior
Spencer Turtz paced the Badgers all week, finishing 29th at +3. Consistency was key for the Charlotte native, firing three consecutive 73s, including a strong final-round -1 back-nine to close out the event.
True freshman
Vijay Kumar stole the show on Tuesday, competing individually. He ripped off a bogey-free, -3, 69 to finish second among all individual competitors, and 29th overall at +3.
Sophomore
Charles Erlandson finished second in the UW lineup today at +1, using three back-nine birdies to vault himself 10 spots into 47th-place.
William Harned also finished 47th at +6, thanks to a -2 second-round, which he played over the course of two days due to weather.
Senior
Jacob Beckman rounded out the UW scoring Tuesday at +5 while
James Boustead used a +1 first-round to get on the board for Bucky.
Two Badgers competed individually this week, with Georgia natives
Drew Sacia and
McCord Grice finishing in 73rd, and 77th, respectively. Sacia played his best golf in the final-round, going +1 with three front-nine birdies. Grice, who was slated for over 30 holes on the final day, grinded through the circumstances to shoot even in the second round.
From the Course -- Head Coach Mike Wilson: "It's a huge honor to host an annual tournament, and even better to do it at TPC Wisconsin for the first time. A huge thanks goes out to their staff and maintenance crew for a beautiful two days of golf. As a team, we know what we need to do to get better, and set our sights toward a great opportunity at Erin Hills."
Up Next: UW has three tournaments left in the fall season. They'll take the weekend of Sept. 27 off before making the short drive to Erin Hills in Hartford, Wis. on Oct. 5 for the Marquette Intercollegiate. They stay on the road for the following two weeks, with trips to Charleston, South Carolina, and Biloxi, Mississippi, to close out the season.
