Blackwell named Naismith Trophy Player of the Week, Boyd collects Big Ten Player of the Week
MADISON, Wis. – After leading Wisconsin to an upset win over No. 2 Michigan, the Wisconsin men's basketball duo of John Blackwell and Nick Boyd earned prominent weekly honors on Monday.Â
Blackwell was named the Naismith Trophy Player of the Week Presented by Jersey Mikes while Boyd earned Co-Big Ten Player of the Week honors.Â
A 6-4 guard from Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, Blackwell picked up the award after averaging 21.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3 assists in wins over UCLA and Michigan last week. The Michigan native posted 17 points, four rebounds and three assists in the 80-72 victory over UCLA on Tuesday, before pacing Bucky to the 91-88 upset win over No. 2 Michigan with 26 points, five rebounds and three assists. He shot 9-of-16 from the field and accounted for four of UW's 15 three-pointers.Â
It's Blackwell's first-career National Player of the Week Honors, after picking up Big Ten Freshman of the Week recognition four times during the 2023-24 season. After being named to the 2025-26 Jersey Mike's Naismith Trophy Men's College Player of the Year Watch List during the preseason, Blackwell is up to 18 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.9 assists on the year.
Boyd averaged 21.0 points per game, 5.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game in the pair of UW's wins. The New York native posted 20 points, eight rebounds and five assists in Tuesday's victory against UCLA. He followed that up with a 22-point effort against Michigan along with six assists and zero turnovers against the country's best defense.Â
It is also Boyd's first Big Ten Player of the Week honor. He is leading the Badgers this year in scoring with 19.7 points per game and assists with 3.4 assists per game.Â
Blackwell, Boyd and the Badgers take on Minnesota on Tuesday night in Minneapolis. Tip is set for 6 p.m. CT on BTN.
