Hensler scores UW's lone goal in defeat
MADISON, Wis. – A three-goal first 13 minutes from No. 4 Michigan State proved too much for the No. 2 Wisconsin men's hockey team in its 4-1 loss to the Spartans on Friday night at the Kohl Center.
Michigan State (17-5-0, 8-4-0 Big Ten - 24 points) got off to a quick start, tallying three goals in the first period: one even strength, another short-handed and a third on the power play. It extended its lead late in the second period to take a 4-0 advantage heading into the final frame. Wisconsin (15-5-2, 8-4-0 Big Ten - 22 points) got on the board with a tally from Logan Hensler in the final minute of the third frame to stop MSU goaltender Trey Augustine's shutout bid as UW fell, 4-1.

Head Coach Mike Hastings
On the team's performance tonight
"We poured some gas on that fire. You don't get off to a good start. Last night we saw a goal in D-zone coverage, same thing happens early tonight. Then we get an opportunity to even things up by going on the power play, and we blow a toe off there. When you're minus-two -- they get a power-play goal, a short-handed goal -- against a quality team, you're playing with fire. I thought we continued to stick with it, but at the end of the day, tonight wasn't a good night for us."
On moving forward from tonight's loss
"You don't get to draw what your path is. You'd better be willing to look in a mirror when you're good and when you're not. We've got some opportunities where we're going to need some guys to grow in a hurry. We have to manage it, but we have to get better. Tonight wasn't good enough."
Sophomore goaltender Eli Pulver
On struggles in the first period
"It's not easy when we give up a goal a minute and whatever into the first. It's a skill to respond, and some days we do and bounce back. Today, maybe it was a bit of a fight for us, and we dug ourselves a hole."
Senior defenseman Ben Dexheimer
On responding after this weekend
"We need to put it in the past, and come to work on Monday. Obviously, we need to clean some things up and just move forward, look forward."
