Junior earns second conference award of the 2025–26 season
MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin men's basketball junior John Blackwell has been named Big Ten Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
The 6-foot-4 guard averaged 23.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists in a pair of Badger victories last week, helping extend Wisconsin's winning streak to four games.
Blackwell poured in 27 points and buried a buzzer-beating three-pointer to lift UW to a 78–75 win at Minnesota last Tuesday. He finished the night shooting 8-of-14 from the field, including five three-pointers, while adding six rebounds and five assists.
The Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, native followed that performance with 19 points in Wisconsin's 96–87 win over Rutgers on Saturday.
For the season, Blackwell is averaging 18.6 points per game, ranking seventh in the Big Ten.
The honor marks Blackwell's second Big Ten Player of the Week award of the season, having previously earned the distinction on Dec. 8.
January has been a standout month for Blackwell, as he was also named Naismith Trophy Player of the Week presented by Jersey Mike's last Monday following his performances in wins over No. 2 Michigan and UCLA.Â
Blackwell and the Badgers return to action on Thursday when they travel to Penn State. Tipoff at Rec Hall is set for 6 p.m., with the game airing live on FS1.
