UW outscores BSU, 16-4 in the series
MADISON, Wis. — The No. 1 Wisconsin women's hockey team (23-1-2, 17-1-2) swept the Bemidji State Beavers at LaBahn Arena this Sunday, 6-1. Five Badgers scored to bring home Wisconsin's fifth straight win.
After recording a six-point hat trick in yesterday's game, Kirsten Simms put on another great performance, recording two goals and an assist. Lacey Eden (one goal, two assists) and Caroline Harvey (one goal, one assist) capped off their impressive weekends as well.
It was Harvey who opened up the scoring, putting one in the net just three minutes into the game. Harvey's goal was quickly followed by Eden hitting the top shelf to make it 2-0.
Simms tallied one for the Badgers after a lengthy stretch of scoreless play in the second period, before a Beaver found the back of the net to make it 3-1.
The Badgers responded just a minute later however, as alternate captain Kelly Gorbatenko fell to the ice to put in her own rebounded shot.Â
With just 13 seconds remaining in the second, Simms scored her other goal to make it 5-1.
UW outshot Bemidji State 54-15, with goaltender Ava McNaughton recording 14 saves.
The game was the last for Wisconsin's five Olympians, who will now depart to Italy for the 2026 Winter games. Laila Edwards, Caroline Harvey, Ava McNaughton, Adéla Šapovaliová and Kirsten Simms are planned to return to UW in time for the postseason.

Head Coach Mark Johnson
On progressing without Olympic players:Â
"We knew it was coming, and we've talked about it since September, time went by quickly, and now here we are. Overall, we put ourselves in a good position. Now we're gonna get challenged, but it's no different than some early games that we had in the season with injuries."
Forward Kirsten Simms
On her goal:
"Viv was able to create a lane for me by creating that drop pass and then Lacey did an incredible job off the draw getting it to begin with. I had quite the time to see all the angles. The way it was off the draw allowed it to be successful.
