
Adéla Šapovalivová named to Czechia Olympic roster

UW freshman qualifies for 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano-Cortina
MADISON, Wis - Wisconsin women's hockey freshman Adéla Šapovalivová was officially named a member of the Olympic roster for Team Czechia, the organization announced on Tuesday.
A current Badger freshman, Šapovalivova is the first European to play for UW, and its first to represent a country in the Olympics other than the USA or Canada. She is the 24th Wisconsin women's hockey player to play in the Olympics and the seventh Badger competing in the 2026 Winter Olympics thus far, alongside Team USA's Laila Edwards, Caroline Harvey, Ava McNaughton, Kirsten Simms, Britta Curl-Salemme and Hilary Knight.
Šapovalivová will match up against her current Badger teammates representing Team USA (Harvey, Edwards, Simms and McNaughton) on Thursday, February 5 in Milan.
Šapovalivová has gathered 18 points in her rookie season as a Badger, with eight goals and 10 assists. In the team's opening series against Bemidji State, the freshman had two points. In her first faceoff against rivals Ohio State, she had a goal and two assists.
The forward was a member of the Czechia Women's National Team at the IIHF World Championships in 2025, 2023 and 2022, earning bronze medals in 2023 and 2022. She was also named Best Forward at the 2024 U18 Women's World Championship.
Most recently, Šapovalivová competed for Czechia last December for three games in the 6-Nations leg of the 2025 Euro Hockey Tour, held in Finland.The Badger is set to compete in UW's first three January series before departing for Italy and will be eligible to return for the remainder of the season following the Games.
