Zaja collects career-high 16 points
CHAMPAIGN, Ill.- The Wisconsin women's basketball team (13-12, 5-9 B1G) dropped a 92-60 game to Illinois (17-8, 7-7 B1G) on Wednesday night.Â
Dorja Zaja led the Badgers with 16 points, going 7-for-11 from the field, adding two free throws and a rebound in 19 minutes. Gift Uchenna recorded 13 points and a team-high seven rebounds, including five offensive boards. Kyrah Daniels added six points, six rebounds and five assists, while Lily Krahn chipped in five points and two assists off the bench.
How it Happened
Wisconsin opened with early interior scoring from Zaja and Uchenna, but Illinois used efficient perimeter shooting to build momentum. The Badgers struggled offensively in the second period, but Laci Steele and Shay Bollin each connected from three to provide a spark. Wisconsin went into halftime trailing 42–26.
The Badgers showed fight coming out of the break and scored 18 points in the third quarter behind baskets from Zaja and Uchenna. Krahn knocked down a three late in the period and the Badgers generated second-chance opportunities with offensive rebounds. However, the Fighting Illini continued to maintain control, leading 68–44 entering the fourth quarter. Wisconsin continued to compete in the final frame, scoring 16 points and attacking the paint. Alie Bisballe added five points off the bench, but Illinois remained efficient offensively to close out the 92–60 result.
The Badgers finished shooting 36.9% (24-65) from the field, 21.7% (5-23) from deep and 58.3% (7-12) from the line. The Illini ended shooting 58.1% (36-62) from the floor, 64.7% (11-17) from three and 75.0% (9-12) from the line.Â
