Wisconsin lightweights compete in varsity eight Cal Cup event
MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin women's lightweight rowing team continues its spring season at the San Diego Crew Classic on March 28-29 in San Diego, California.
Before the Badgers hit the water, here are f(oar) things to know:
1. LAST TIME OUT
Last week, the Wisconsin lightweights took to Fairfax, Virginia, to open its spring season against the Georgetown Hoyas. The Badgers' varsity four crew, led by coxswain Emilie Rochon, edged out the Hoyas by four seconds, covering the distance in 7:16.0 to seal the race win.
Wisconsin narrowly dropped its races to Georgetown in the varsity eight and double sculls, falling shortly behind by just under five seconds in each race.
2. SCOUTING THE COMPETITION
Heading into race week at the San Diego Crew Classic, Wisconsin will send its fifth-ranked varsity eight crew to compete in the Cal Cup event on Sunday. Emilie Rochon will lead the Badgers as the crew's coxswain, with Alexandra and Olivia Palmberg sitting stroke and bow, respectively.
The Badgers' varsity lightweight eight will be squaring up against other colleges including Sacramento State, UCLA, UC San Diego, Califonia, San Diego, Texas, Washington, Washington State and the Wisconsin openweight rowers.
3. WHERE TO NEXT
After the San Diego Crew Classic, the Badgers will remain on hte West Coast for spring break and compete the following weekend against the University of San Diego in a dual on April 4 before competing in the Knecht Cup in New Jersey a week later.
4. FOLLOW ALONG
The Badgers' varsity eight will take to the water on Sunday morning at 11:23 a.m. (CT) to compete in the Cal Cup event. Post-regatta results can be found on the Regatta Master's website here, as well as a livestream link here.
