No. 35 Wisconsin secures win to open weekend
MADISON, Wis. - The No. 35 Wisconsin men's tennis team (12-5, 3-4) defeated No. 46 Oregon (13-4, 4-2) at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison on Friday, 4-2. Wisconsin claimed an advantage by winning the doubles point and went on to secure singles wins to clinch the match.Â
In doubles action, Wisconsin scored wins at No. 2 and No. 3 as the pairs of Ferdinand Kloesters /Michael Minasyan and Matthew Fullerton/Patrik Meszaros managed commanding wins. The doubles point has been crucial for the Badgers this spring. UW is now 26-14 in doubles matches this season.Â
In singles play, the Badgers were on the hunt for three wins to secure the match victory. Sachiv Kumar set the tone early, cruising to a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles. Kloesters kept the momentum rolling on court five, sealing the match with a 6-1, 6-1 victory.Â
Junior Thomas Zlatohlavek sealed the sweep for Wisconsin, sealing a gritty 7-5 first-set win before cruising past Oregon 6-1 in the second set.Â
Wisconsin's spring record is now 12-5, and it is 3-4 in conference play.Â
