Badgers grind out 4-2 win against Boilermakers

No. 35 Wisconsin takes down Purdue on the road
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The No. 35 Wisconsin men's tennis team (16-5, 7-4 Big Ten) defeated Purdue (5-15, 1-10 Big Ten) in its last regular season road match, 4-2. Purdue earned a hard-fought doubles point and a win at No. 4 singles before Wisconsin won four straight singles matches (No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 and No. 6) to secure the team win, extending its win streak to five matches.Â
Purdue jumped out to an early lead after securing the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 singles. The match at No. 1 doubles was left unfinished at 5-5.
The Boilermakers took a 2-0 lead after Jacob Lee defeated Edouard Aubert in straight sets at No. 4 singles. Ferdinand Kloesters got the Badgers their first point of the afternoon with a straight set victory at No. 3 singles. The sophomore improved to 7-3 in conference matches.
Patrik Meszaros tied the match with an impressive comeback effort against Nour Fathalla at No. 1 singles. The three-set victory was Meszaros' 13th win of the spring, and he improved his No. 1 singles record to 5-0. Michael Minasyan earned a three-set victory of his own at No. 2 singles to give Wisconsin the 3-2 match lead.
Matthew Fullerton clinched the match with a comeback, three-set victory at No. 6 singles.Â
Wisconsin improves to 16-5 on the season and 7-4 in conference play. They have two regular season matches remaining before the Big Ten Championships in Ojai, Calif., which runs from April 22-25.
Up Next: The Badgers will return to Nielsen Tennis Stadium for their last home slate of the regular season next weekend, with matches against No. 2 Ohio State and Penn State on Friday, April 17 and Sunday, April 19, respectively. Sunday's match against the Nittany Lions is Senior Day.Â
